Few emo albums lately have grabbed me like I Don’t Hate You, the debut from New Jersey combo Ogbert The Nerd. Though laced with a morbid narrative (“It begins at a celebration and it ends at a funeral”), the document was a type of house-party ragers, rowdy rock music match for pounding fists and shouting each lyric again on the band, spiked with the sense that everybody concerned is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. So it’s pleasing to report that Ogbert have a brand new tune out right now.
“A New Sort Of Borkulator” leads with a piercing vocal line that can be a litmus check to your tolerance of screechy, neurotic emo vocals. Those that vibe with that model can be handled to a different chaotically catchy barnburner filled with rad riffs and memorable lyrics: “I believe I’ve seen this one earlier than/ The hero dies however the ending’s unbelievable,” “Think about a lifetime of this/ Completely the boring components of conversations,” “It’s not my house/ It’s only a fucking constructing.”
